The Isaiah Olufemi Elugbaju (IOE) Foundation, a non-profit organisation, has launched its inaugural medical mission, providing free healthcare services to the community. The initiative, aimed at addressing critical health needs and promoting overall well-being, is a tribute to the founder’s late father, Isaiah Olufemi Elugbaju, who passed on 10 years earlier due to cancer.
According to Tobi Elugbaju, CEO of the foundation, the outreach is a way to give back to the community where they grew up. “My late father believed in helping the poor. This health programme is one way the family continues his legacy,” she said. The foundation plans to continue this initiative and expand its reach to other areas.
The medical mission provided comprehensive healthcare services, including free consultations, check-ups and medications.
Dr. Uche Nwachukwu, spokesperson for the medical team, expressed happiness at the high turnout, as many vulnerable people had access to quality healthcare at zero cost. He however disclosed synergy with the local primary health centre to ensure patients get continued medical assistance even after the programme.
Dr. Abimbola Mabogunje, permanent secretary of Lagos State Primary Health Care, commended the health initiative, stating that it was timely and complemented the government’s efforts.
“With the availability of free medication, patients with chronic conditions have access to vital medications, thereby increasing their lifespan.”
A beneficiary, Mrs Ade Ayo, who expressed deep gratitude over the free medicare and drugs received, asked God to bless initiators of the scheme.
According to her, “the prevailing situation in Nigeria and high cost of medicare and drugs these days, make it difficult for one to visit the hospital when needed.”
The IOE Foundation plans to continue its outreach efforts, with the next event scheduled for next year. Tola Obambe, a family member, noted that the foundation will take the outreach to different locations, saying, “Next year, we will be somewhere else. We are taking it around.”
The IOE Foundation is a registered nonprofit organisation dedicated to promoting education, cancer awareness and community development. The organisation aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and communities in need.
